  • Why You Should Trust Your SEO During Times of Change

In the world of SEO you adapt and move on with the changing times or you can cling to outdated methods and fall behind the times. Google, Bing and more secular search engines all have one thing in common – they evolve to try to serve a better product to their end user. In their quest to do that, they sometimes implement changes that have an impact on each of our individual SEO efforts. The changes may give us a boost or a slight drop. We may even hold steady, but no matter what the change is, it will have an effect on what we do going forward. In order to insulate yourself from algorithm changes, there are some tried and true methods that seem to never go out of style with the SERPs.

Create quality content. This is as true today as it ever was. Quality content always manages to find a way to get noticed and move it’s way up the search engine ranking labyrinth. With changes to Google bot, quality content is even more important than it was before. When you create quality, properly optimized content, you reward your readers by providing them with readable, relevant, useful information. That may lead to conversions, but it will also lead to better rankings. That is how Google rewards you for creating content that allows them to deliver a better product.

Linking is still very important and always will be. The SERPs are definitely cracking down on sites with tons of irrelevant links, but quality links earned by creating quality content always have value. The move the SERPs are making is to reward relevance over sheer bulk. This doesn’t mean sites with a healthy or even large amount of links are going to be tanked on that alone, but what it does mean is that their value will be interpreted in a slightly different way. More links is still good – just not so many that it appears unnatural. Keep your linking organic!

SEO is dead? Hardly, but you’ll read that over and over as you cruise the web. SEO is alive and well – it’s just changing to meet the needs of what clients need to compete in search engine rankings in a more efficient and effective way. Years ago, it was all about the directories and no one thought there was a way to improve on them – for the most part. Along came search engines and with them SEO. Directories didn’t die off because of that- DMOZ is as big as ever for instance. All they did was adapt to meet the needs of the market. SEO is no different in that regard with the exception that search engines are not going to lose a dominant foothold on how people find information.

These are all excellent reasons to stay the course with your SEO programs. If SEO was a science that didn’t adapt, it would have ceased to exist almost as soon as it was born instead of continuing to grow. When you look to engage an SEO firm, take that into consideration and see who has been around through all the changes and is still doing business. That is the type of SEO company you want – one that has proved it can change with the times as needed and keep moving forward.
