  • Why do You Need Fresh Content?

Fresh content is necessary to your site, and every effort should be made to have continual trickles of content being added at all times.

This can be articles, a blog entry, even a comment. You can run polls and surveys to invite visitor participation, or hold contests with a clock clicking down. Invite guest bloggers to write – they will usually do it for a byline. Free content, and hey presto, you have your content for the day.

If you have time, write content your self. Pick a topic per week, and double up on weekends to get a weeks worth of posts done to feed into the site through the week. You can take a set of keywords, and write an articles, a blog post, a top five or ten list or a how to tip, do a press release, anything, just keep the content flowing.

If you are flush with more cash than time, hire a writer. Many freelancers would leap at a chance for steady work and cut you a discount if you pay each week or month up front. Hire four or five on a trial basis with payment after delivery, then work a deal with the one who does the best, most prompt job.

Look for content on the web that you can use for inspiration – don’t scrape or do a sloppy formula rewrite job, but take the information and represent it in your own words. There are blogs devoted to digging up the latest news in almost any field, so keep your ear to the ground!

Consider tying in your blog to your site, and using it as a way to get bloggers to come and write you articles for free. Offer them a byline or a link, and funnel the traffic from your blog to your website.

Once you have made the habit of fresh content, it is relatively easy to maintain. You don’t absolutely have to have a new page or article per day, but make sure you do one or two a week at least.

Don’t underestimate the spiders. If you use an auto generate program to spam your own site with terrible content, expect the spiders to act like you taste bad! All of your content should hold to the same high standard; it should be worth reading, worth linking to and worth scrutiny.

There are tips you can take advantage of to boost your content levels, but the best solution of all is to simply write, or hire a writer. Then you can work on building your site, linking, and organizing your site map.

After you have grown your site to a respectable size, you can move on to strengthening the other aspects and working on heavy marketing that will increase your revenue. You can still add content once a week, say, but make sure you keep the standards high and the linking immaculate.
