  • Where is YOUR Traffic Coming From?

We recognize it is all about the SERPs for many websites. You will get traffic if you are on page one, even more if you are in the top five, and a large increase fro the #1 spot.

But have you looked lately to see where your traffic is coming from, for real? Sometimes we ignore good traffic sources when we get too focused on Google.

Look at your other resources. Other domains you own or control can be used intelligently to drive extra traffic: You could 301 redirect some of those sites back to a subfolder on your main site for additional benefit, use exact keyword match domain names to make effective micro sites and link intelligently between all of the above.

If you see these valuable strategies producing traffic, spend a little extra time to maximize it! Remember, that it’s often easier to build on what you’ve already got going than to develop entirely new strategies, content & processes.

Consider smart reciprocal linking. While reciprocal linking carries a bit of a bad reputation, there is nothing wrong with building a “partners,” “clients,” “suppliers,” or “recommended” list on your site. You can also request that your organizational brethren do likewise for you. These are high quality, relevant reciprocal links.

Use your print and offline content to boost your online offerings. Don’t forget about all the material you have that wasn’t initially produced for the web. Revise it and publish, and you will be surprised at the boost you can get. Build a Squidoo with information on troubleshooting a product, or a wiki on craft uses or family fun ideas.

Use your happy customers, since they already like you. Sometimes they can be a valuable resource, if they have a blog or website, or are willing to write a favorable review. The idea of “user-generated-content” is spreading across the web. Reach out to customers, visitors and email lists for both links & content opportunities.

Once you have started looking at your traffic sources beyond the SERPs, you will find innumerable places you can increase interest and bring in even more traffic while adding links and content to boost your search engine ranking even more.
