  • The Little Website That Could

Once upon a time there was a little website. It wasn’t as big and flashy as some of the other websites; it didn’t have a million dollar budget or unlimited manpower. It managed to make enough to pay for its hosting fees off of AdSense, but it dreamed of bigger and better things.

“I have a good domain” the website said. “I think I can do better!” And so the little website decided to look into making a niche for itself. It started doing research and found out that the budget it did have would be best spent on obtaining some good links from social sites and article distribution.

It decided that maybe a few good affiliate programs would be the way to bring in some quick cash, so it studied the market and found out what was hot. Snagging the long tail keywords, it built a smart campaign out of a combination of low cost AdWords, careful keyword optimization, and heavy article distribution.

It started being active on forums and blogs related to the nature of its niche. Portraying itself as a helpful expert, it gave answers and dispensed advice, careful not to appear like it was displaying too much self promotion. It cultivated an online presence and issued press releases to drum up even more interest when it launched a new product or service.

With all of these actions in gear, it began to add extra features, like a blog with a forum, some gadgets and widgets, and a free newsletter for its slowly goring client base. A few well worded, friendly emails a year kept customers informed and reminded them of the great products to be found.

Once the traffic picked up, the little website began to invest a portion of the earnings into branching out to offer still more products and services, and even helped start up a new site, to keep its shelves from getting to crowded. It shared its experience with the sister site, and the two were in the money.

The website grew to a leader in its niche, and paid for itself many times over. It really was the little website that could!

You too can make your website bring in revenue if you take a balanced approach and combine DIY with a little help from experts. All it takes is a keen eye for opportunity and your site can become a leader, too!
