  • SEOs and People Who Don’t Believe in Them

I heard a colleague who is a rock solid Southern Baptist say that SEO is like the devil who loves folks that don’t believe he exists! He has a point – there are still crowds of people who think SEO is all for show, and doesn’t have any actual effect on rankings, traffic or sales.

SEO’s don’t mind. These non-believers are the people we wipe the floor with when it comes to well thought out ad campaigns, niche marketing and targeted traffic for high conversions. In a recent study, however, it seems that a wave of evangelism is spreading, and converts are flocking to the fold.

SEO does work, as countless satisfied customers can attest. Whether you spend an hour a week working the social book marking angle, write a blog a day, or submit articles monthly to online directories, you can and will give yourself more exposure than you can simply by shelling out for pay per click.

If you optimize all of your content and links for user ease and spider crawl ability, you increase your chances of a high rank even more. If you spend some of that budget on a solid linking campaign, you can move up the SERPs to a point that traffic starts to land at a faster rate.

If everything you do with your site is geared towards increasing organic traffic and ensuring you are reaching the most motivated buyers, your ROI can’t help but improve. But hey, if you don’t believe it that’s fine too – I’ll just help your competitor get that edge to beat you to the top!

SEO is alive and kicking and more webmasters than ever are starting to realize it. Large companies are finally falling in line for professional services as well. As the economy staggers world wide and many businesses are packing it up and calling it quits, SEO firms are actually experiencing an increase in business.

This is a surprise to those who maintain it’s all smoke and mirrors. The fact is, however, that without a widely recognized brand or unlimited budgets, competition on the web is fierce. You eventually have to optimize or lose the battle. This is where the professional SEO comes in.

Now, some SEOs will tell you they can’t divulge their trade secrets, but in reality there are basic things that SEOs do. These don’t vary much, and new additions are rare – though revisions and refinements to existing procedures will always be being made. Any SEO worth their salt will keep you in the loop and be willing to explain their actions.

Believe in SEO or not – it’s your own loss if you miss out on the results!
