  • SEO Step By Step Guide– 93. Pagerank is not everything

If you are one of those webmasters who spends generously to enhance your website’s Google pagerank then you are not alone. There are thousands of webmasters who lose their night’s sleep in trying to increase their website’s pagerank. People spend lot of time, money and energy in increasing their website’s Google pagerank because they think that just by getting good pagerank, they can get the desired traffic and good conversion rate. However, in reality this may not be the case. You may be having very good pagerank for your website but still not get proportionate conversion rate and business out of your website.

Google ranks websites and assigns them with a pagerank to help its indexing process. Google pagerank is an indicator for us to find the popularity of our website in the search engine. Google pagerank does not take into consideration whether your website is optimized for the right keywords or not, whether your website is listed for keywords that matter the most to you or not etc. Your website may have PR5+ but still not attract targeted traffic because Google may not be listing you in the search results for keywords that matter the most to you. Google performs its own analysis of your web pages, indexes them and ranks them. This need not necessarily match with the keywords for which you would like your website to be listed.

Your website’s performance however will be dramatic if your website has good pagerank and in addition, it should also be getting listed for the right keywords. When your website is optimized correctly for the best keywords and when your website also has a good PR, then you are more likely to get targeted traffic. You can expect business conversions only when your website attracts visitors who are interested in the services you are offering. Therefore, as you can see, pagerank is not everything for a website. This will also be evident when you observe the search results page in Google. Google will list websites that have PR0 in top positions for a number of keywords. For internet users who are making searches online, your PR does not matter and in fact, not many of them know that there is something called pagerank. They simply click the first few results to find what they were looking for.

Having said this, the point here is not to discourage you to work towards enhancing your website’s PR. However, your efforts should be holistic and your website’s SEO should have the right foundation. It should start with an in-depth keyword research so that you can make your website relevant to the searches made online. Unless you start of with the right note, all the later efforts will not yield the desired results. So make sure to entrust your website’s SEO to a reliable and experienced SEO company.
