  • SEO Step By Step Guide– 74.Blogging Mistakes to be Avoided

It is rather surprising to note that even experienced bloggers make some common mistakes which they could avoid easily and improve their online performance. Blogging is an art; we need to ensure that we take a balanced approach with our blogs. Blogs give us the freedom to be little informal with our style of writing and in the way we would present the information to our audience. Most of us use conversational style in blogs and for blogs in certain niches it may work well but not for all niches.

The danger with using conversational style is that we often tend to get out of focus and bring in elements that are not highly relevant to the post. So actually, the question is not using conversational style but making posts that are not focused. This has two negative effects. First of all, the quality of the blog posts will be poor and it will not attract good traffic. People will not return to such blogs. So you are losing advantage on your traffic and all the time looking for fresh traffic. Secondly, when your blog posts are out of focus, then, it will be difficult to ensure the right keyword density in the content. Search engines too will have problem with your posts because it will not know your area of focus. You will not be listed for the relevant keywords.

The next mistake is just the opposite of the above. There are bloggers who develop their posts just for the search engines. This would result in robotic writing. You must always remember that good search engine ranking is to get good traffic and good traffic is to get good conversion rates. So good search engine ranking that does not bring good business conversions is useless. We cannot expect good conversions with robotic writing. Therefore, you must make sure to strike the balance in your blogs. Make interesting and engaging posts that will get you good response from the online community. At the same time, ensure that you are getting your SEO benefit out of it.

There is no harm in using conversational style but give your blog post a definitive direction rather than indulging in flight of ideas that will lead you nowhere.

Another common mistake that we make is that we think that if we should be humorous if we want our blog to be popular. Yes, it is true that people like humorous posts but there are also serious audiences who look for pithy content. Sometimes, we use blog titles that are too complicated to be associated with our topic. Certain titles will require too much of mental gymnastics. Search engines unfortunately do not have that capability though a certain percentage of your audience may have it. It is best to stick to simple blog post titles that can be directly linked to your blog content so that search engines can find your post relevant to searches that are made by the users.
