We spend a lot of time in link building as we understand the importance of links for our website. However, we fail to make the best out of our link building efforts by paying little or no attention to the anchor text. Anchor text is nothing but the set of words using which your website will be linked from the third party website or internally from within your website.

If all the links coming to your website uses the same text then your ranking will not be uniformly distributed for all your main keywords and your linking efforts will be unnecessarily be limited. Some of the webmasters just use their website URL as their hyperlink text. You can use your website’s URL as the anchor text when there is no provision for you to create anchor text to link to your website. In all the other situations, you must make sure to come up with powerful anchor text that will blend well with the context of the linking website. Contextual links are more powerful than getting random links and that is one of the reasons why we need to get links from websites that are related to our products and services.

If you want to get good ranking for a particular keyword over the other keywords, use that keyword as your anchor text. This way you can boost your keywords strength in a systematic way. You will anyway get your back links through your link building efforts, but if you pay closer attention to the process, you will notice that you are achieving better results for the same efforts.

Anchor text is not only important for the back links, it is equally important for internal linking. So try to take the maximum advantage of your anchor text by taking a systematic approach rather than a random approach. If you hire an experienced SEO company, they will offer you guidance on how to go about choosing your anchor text after understanding your business model and your keyword requirements.

It is recommended that your anchor text is not more than 55 characters. According to industry best practices, it is 8 to 10 words with a maximum characters count of 55. This should also remind us of the URL length. Unless you have a detailed blueprint of your SEO, you may not be in a position to decide your URLs in advance. If you take this aspect into consideration during the development of your website, you will find the later stages of your website’s SEO to be much easier. Google seems to take into account only up to 8 words after which all the other words are ignored so make sure that your anchor text is well focused on the keywords.
