  • SEO Step By Step Guide – 122. Understanding Various HTML Tags of SEO

We make use of a number of HTML tags for our SEO. The HTML page of any website will contain a number of HTML tags that characterize the web pages. Not all of them are relevant for SEO. Only a few of these HTML tags are considered to be relevant for SEO. These tags tell the search engines about the nature of our web pages and what they are supposed to be for. A number of search engines even today depend on these tags to index our websites. Without adding the right tags for our website we cannot expect the desired results. However, we should remember at the same time that these tags alone are not sufficient to get the desired ranking for your website. However, these HTML tags will certainly make your website more search engine friendly.

The first in the list of tags is the ‘title tag’. Here you will add the title of your webpage. This will tell the search engines what your website is all about. It will help the search engines to position your website amongst the other sites. Normally, the title tag will be composed of 80 characters and it will contain the keywords that are pertaining to that particular webpage. However, it has to be noted that the titles should not contain too high keyword density. Also if you insert too many keywords making a long title for your web page, you are more likely to be ignored by the search engines.

The next in the list of SEO tags is the keywords tag. [meta name =”Keywords”]. This tag is for us to insert all our keywords. However, we will dilute the effectiveness of our main keywords by inserting too many keywords. So we must make sure to keep this tag highly focused to get maximum benefit.

The next SEO tag is the description tag. [<meta name =”Description”]. You need to make sure that this tag contains relevant information. Search engines try to capture the information found in this tag while listing your site. This will also prompt the users to click your link. So provide thoughtful descriptions about your website.

Whether it is the keywords tag, title tag or description tag, all them should be unique for each page. By repeating the same tags for all the pages you will end up having problems with the search engines.

There are other tags such as “classifications”, “robots”, “author” etc. Not many websites use these tags. However, we will help the search engines by providing as much information as possible about our site.

By carefully building your tags, you will be able to get better placements in the search engines as these tags will make your website search engine friendly.
