  • SEO Step By Step Guide– 114. Strategies to Measure the Effectiveness of your SEO

All of us would like to measure the effectiveness of our SEO efforts to see how the money that we are investing in our website’s SEO is bearing results. Often we find it difficult to quantify the results from our SEO efforts. However, only when we measure the effectiveness of our SEO, we will be able to make good decisions for the forth-coming SEO campaigns. Here are few tips on how you can go about measuring the success of your SEO efforts.

First of all, make sure that you have a system in place that will force you to keep track of your website’s trends. You must look at your website stats regularly and frequently. It should be as frequent as every week. This will help you understand your website’s online trend. You will be able to see the rise and fall of the traffic level and associate the trend with various seasons in the calendar.

You must also associate it with your specific efforts such as addition of content, modifications made to the site’s navigation menu, addition of new Sitemap, etc.

The next important factor that you should remember is that you should also associate your website’s traffic to your business goals, which would be sales level and business conversions. Like we said in the last post, you may have #1 ranking or have loads of traffic to your site but in terms of conversions, you may have nothing to boast about. So you should quantify your results in terms of increase in profit level. This can be a tricky area because you may have different streams of marketing methods implemented simultaneously. So to apportion a part of your success to your SEO efforts and to put a figure on that is a difficult area to handle.

Keep track of the visitor traffic to each page of your website. See where the most visitors are entering and where the most visitors are leaving your site. This will give you some insight into both success and failure of your website’s performance. You will know whether the problem is with your website or with your SEO. It happens often. You might be getting enough visitors for the right keywords but you may not see proportionate conversions. Then you cannot blame your SEO, you should rather take a look at your landing and leaving pages carefully and see how you can improve them as well as how you can convince your visitors. While doing this, you should also take a look at your competition. It can be that you are more expensive or have lesser features on your products or services or your pages take too long to load, it can be anything from the simplest reason to the most complicated. So before blaming your SEO efforts and investment, try to identify the problem area first.
