  • SEO Step By Step Guide– 113. Further Tips on Selecting your Keywords

By now almost all of us would appreciate the importance of having the right keywords selected for our website before we optimize the website. Only with the right set of keywords we will be able to get the desired traffic. So the entire process is to drive more traffic to the website that is highly targeted. There are two common issues or aspects that we need to take into consideration.

The first factor is that, we should identify keywords that are receives the highest number of searches. When we try to find the success rate of our website and the traffic level what will determine the real success rate is the number of searches made using a particular keyword. There is no use ranking #1 for a keyword which is not searched or just receives just a few hundred searches every month. As you can see, #1 ranking is useless unless people are going to search using that keyword. Your keyword analysis should therefore look at the data available on the average number of searches for top keywords in your industry. It is not the number of pages displayed for a particular keyword search that tells us the true story of success. So don’t be mislead by your SEO company when it says that you are ranking in top 10 for a competition of several million results. Never attribute success to your keyword without seeing traffic to your website in real time. It is also important to look at the source of traffic before you attribute success to your organic optimization.

Secondly, the traffic that you get for your website will convert only when they are highly targeted. If you are music store, you cannot expect people that are looking for the biography of the musicians for their term project to order music CDs. So it is equally important to keep track of your results and find out for what searches you are featuring in the results. You will be able to bring more focus to your website’s traffic only by choosing the right keywords. So you must identify the action item of your website and choose keywords that are directly linked to your action item. This where most often you will be faced with severe competition. Unless your keyword is associated with your website’s action item, you cannot expect the desired conversions.

So consider these two factors while selecting your keywords and pick the keywords that are associated with your website’s action item which receives the highest number of searches. If your none of your keywords are not receiving enough search queries then you must know that you have chosen the wrong niche for your online business. Therefore make practical and well informed keyword decisions.
