  • Keyword Stuffing is Like …

    … false advertising, only worse.

It tries to make you think it’s all about what you want, when in reality it’s all about what they are trying to sell you. It’s like … a padded bra, that’s what it’s like. You really get excited, you think you are getting one thing, and whaddya know. Not what ya thought ya were buying, now, is it?

Not that anyone should have any expectations or judge anyone else based on the apparent size of that someone else’s chest, and not that anyone should ever, ever PAY for anything – I digress. You get the idea, right?

Don’t over sell your product. Truth in advertising may be a laughable joke, but that doesn’t mean that you can get away with it. Why do you think you can Google almost any ‘as seen on TV’ product coupled with the word ‘scam’ and get page after page of disgruntled people?

Search engines don’t like it when you try to con their customers. Don’t pretend to be something you aren’t. Keyword stuffing to try and make it look like you are the answer to the customer’s problem is just not going to do you a lot fo good in the long run. They will take one look at what is under the exterior and be disgusted; not because your site isn’t perfectly good for what it is, but because it isn’t what THEY were looking for.

If you are looking for a white blanket, and you click on a site that has risen to the top of Google by using the words white and blanket a million times in the text, and even has a pic of a white blanket correctly tagged front and center, then when you get to checkout it is revealed that all they have is black blankets, you will probably be a mite ticked off.

So will Google, since you will blame them for giving you the reference to try that site out for white blankets. You would probably want that site banned from the front page of search results for white blanket, right?

So , the same applies to you. Don’t try to trick people shopping for dogs to come to your cat store. Look for te cat people, target them, and try to get them to come to your cat store.

If the field is too big, like ‘hats’, find a niche and cater to those who want ‘yellow hats for babies who we don’t know are boy or girl yet’. OK, or something shorter. You’re smart (hey, you are reading this, right?) – you’ll figure something out.
