  • What is PLR?

PLR stands for Private Label Rights. A PLR article is one that is available on the web, for anyone to use as they see fit. Some take these articles and use them as content on their own website, which causes more cases of duplicate content – which is a bad idea. These poor souls don’t get the real idea behind PLR, which is that it is intended only to be used as raw material.

The majority of users take PLR articles and use the ideas and structure to rewrite the actual content and yield a ‘new’ article. I have my own personal views on what constitutes an ‘original’ article, but as far as search engines go, right now this is fair practice. You might want to double check your rewrite for originality both against the original and the rest of the web.

Don’t use a rewrite software! This only complicates your job, because you will have to go back through anyway to try and make the end result coherent and if you miss something you could end up looking like an idiot.

A use for PLR product that actually makes sense is for auto-responder programs – although here as well you should engage in some heavy rewriting in case your competitors have done the same thing. It would be awkward to have a client notice two different emails from different companies containing exactly the same information.

The really best use for PLR is for ideas. Some web content managers can glean pertinent facts from several different articles and make a completely new one with a new slant on an old idea. This is a form of research that should be double verified, because you have no guarantee that the articles you are using are perfectly accurate or not.

When you use PLR articles on your site, be prepared to invest some time working on them to make them acquire your particular flavor and style. The main problem with PLR content is that it is almost without reservation bland, and you don’t want just another cookie cutter website.

If you really want great content that grabs your reader and drags them into your site, I suggest writing it yourself if you bare so talented or else hiring a pro. Making your site stand out from the others is that name of the internet game. Playing the game right sometimes means not taking the easy road out.
