Next in this series is Keyword Analysis. Before we get in to learn what keyword analysis is we must know what keywords are, in the first place.

Keywords are nothing but words or phrases that are used by the internet users to look for information through the search engines. When someone is looking for information online, depending on the information that they are searching, would use single word and short phrases. The short phrases would not pass grammatical sentence construction. It forms more of a shortened form of the information needed. For example when someone is looking for SEO companies in Chicago, they would most probably use phrases like, “seo chicago”, or “chicago seo”, “cheap seo chicago”, “top seo chicago”, etc. It is also dependent on the language limitations. If someone who is not conversant in the English language would be using a different set of keywords or key phrases. Though all these key phrases do not make sense to human audience, search engines recognize the information that is sought after by the internet user. Search engines do not look for the meaning of the word groups. They rather try to match just individual words in a given sequence or the proximity of the words in the possible target websites. Websites with exact match are listed on the top of the search results and websites that do not have exact match but have closer match are listed in the lower positions. However, this is not the only factor that search engines uses to rank websites in search results pages. There are number of other factors that come into play, which we will be discussing in the future posts.

Now, when we engage in keyword analysis, we must bear these factors in mind. Besides that some keywords will have more competition than the others. As you can guess optimizing your website for a keyword with very high competition will be a difficult task and it will require greater efforts to get the desired results. However, we should not be discouraged by this or leave out the keywords with very high competition completely. Sometimes those words would be the best words to describe your products or services. So your list of keywords should include even these keywords with high competition. However, the list should not stop only with those high competition keywords, it should also contain keywords that have less competition. Initially, you will be able to get traffic to your website only through these keywords that have less competition. This will ensure a study flow of traffic to keep your business going and growing. You must continue to strengthen your efforts to get on top for the keywords with high competition and that is when you will be able to make the best out of your website.

SEO in general is a slow process and it requires consistent efforts. You cannot expect to achieve results overnight.
