  • SEO Step By Step Guide– 31. Black Hat Tricks To Avoid

In our enthusiasm to get good rankings for our website, we can easily buy black hat concepts that will eventually get our website banned in search engines. Google recommends that we design the site for the users and not for the search engines. What Google means is that the website should not contain anything that is not visible to the human visitor unless it has to do with backend coding required to run the website.

There should not be any hidden texts or hidden links in the website with the intention of tricking the search engines. Often hidden text is created by changing the color of the font to the color of the background making the text and the links invisible.

When it comes to keyword stuffing, Google recommends that we use keywords that we know people use for searching for information or services we offer or products we sell in the page content to make our page relevant to the searches made. Many webmasters misuse this concept and stuff keywords which are not relevant to the page with the intention of increasing the keyword density. They tend to repeat the keywords in the content as well in an unnatural way, which will make the text, read awkward.

In order to increase the traffic, we should not create multiple pages with the same content which will lead to content duplicity issues. Not only pages, but even multiple domains or multiple sub domains should not be created with duplicate content.

Some of the webmasters try to trick the users and search engines by using illegal redirects. Here the actual landing page will be different from the page intended to visit by the visitor. The search result will show a page that is different from the actual page. This is normally used when the keyword competition is very stiff. Keywords that are related to the services offered by the website but less competitive will be used to target customers and search engines. But these keywords will not be very close to the actual landing page. When users click on those pages, they will be moved without their knowledge to a different page which could not be ranked well in the search engines due to the level of competition.

You are not supposed to use doorway pages either to attract users to your website. If you are participating in any affiliate programs, your affiliate page should not contain exactly the same content as the other affiliates in the same network. This does not add any value to your website.

Moreover, your website should not contain any malware or viruses that will takeover the browser of the visitor or install any program in the computer of the visitor that will make your website the default homepage without their authorization or perform other similar actions.

There are more such black hat tricks used to get good rankings or to get more traffic to websites. Anyone who is really serious about their online reputation will certainly avoid such approaches.
